Luca Maroni awards the Best Italian Wines, including several labels from Varvaglione Vigne & Vini.

One of the most renowned names in Italian oenology, with “The Best Italian Wines,” Luca Maroni awarded in Rome the producers of red, white, rosé, and sweet wine labels that were rated above 91 points in his 2016 Yearbook.

The event opened with the presentation of awards to the winemakers featured in the “Yearbook of the Best Italian Wines 2016,” now in its 22nd edition, including the multi-award-winning Apulian winery Varvaglione Vigne & Vini. The awards were assigned according to Luca Maroni’s scientific tasting method, based on the principle that it is the pleasure of the taste that defines the quality of a wine, evaluated through three parameters: consistency, balance, and integrity.

PAPALE LINEA ORO-PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA DOP” ranked in the category of “THE BEST RED WINE OF ITALY” with 98 points. Following, 95 for “SCHIACCIANOCI - NEGROAMARO DEL SALENTO IGP”, 95 for “IL CARDINALE LINEA ORO-PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA DOP”, 94 for “PASSIONE-PRIMITIVO DEL SALENTO IGP”, (92) for “12 E MEZZO-MALVASIA DEL SALENTO IGP”, 91 for “12 E MEZZO-NEGROAMARO DEL SALENTO IGP”, and 90 for “12 E MEZZO-PRIMITIVO DEL SALENTO IGP”.

We can capture the essence of this event with the words of Luca Maroni: «Wine should be appreciated with the senses, not with the mind. There is no one who cannot understand it: everyone has the sensitive tools to recognize its goodness, even if they do not have the criteria to analyze and explain it».
