Great success for Varvaglione and its Malvasia del Salento IGP among the Italian white wines present at Vinitaly 2016.
Wines from Italy, Germany, and France won the main awards at the first edition of 5 Star Wines, the new Vinitaly international wine award that concluded on April 3 at Veronafiere, after three days of careful evaluation of the over 2,700 registered wine samples from 27 nations.
The award procedure for Vinitaly starting this year is much more innovative: winners are not awarded medals, but rather scores. Our wine “12 e Mezzo-MALVASIA DEL SALENTO IGP” scored 90 out of 100 “5 Wine Star Awards”. The debut of this Award in the year of the event's 50th edition is particularly significant because both mark a new beginning with an even greater commitment to internationalization. The authority of the jury and the scores achieved by the wineries testify to the growing quality of a sector that is also one of the most dynamic economically.
We also take this opportunity to give you some advice on pairings for this summer season and it comes naturally for us to propose the “12 e Mezzo-Malvasia del Salento IGP”, an aromatic white wine with a fruity bouquet, a fresh and persistent taste, and a citrus aftertaste. This Malvasia del Salento, with a yellow color and golden nuances, which comes from the meeting of the Apulian sun with the Malvasia Bianca del Salento grapes, presents a lively, balanced taste and a scent that recalls summer.
"12 e Mezzo-MALVASIA DEL SALENTO IGP" is a wine that pairs perfectly with dishes from Italian cuisine, but more generally with Mediterranean-flavored dishes. In fact, thanks to its style, it is a wine that easily pairs with all fish and shellfish dishes, as well as with fresh and delicate cheeses.
