The arrival of the new and promising wine ‘1921 – Primitivo di Manduria RISERVA PDO’ has been long contemplated by the Varvaglione family who, in keeping with tradition, have given it a name strongly tied to the family.

In fact, at the Apulian winery Varvaglione Vigne & Vini, behind every detail lies the deep bond between family traditions, the wines produced, and the land from which they originate. Even the name given to each label stems from one of these characteristics, and for this reason the origin of the name and the symbol represented on each label carries a meaning tied to the territory or the family.

primitivo di manduriaAs the first RISERVA of Primitivo di Manduria PDO produced by the Salento winery, its name tells the story of the family. In fact, 1921 was a special year, marked by two events that deserve to be remembered decades later through a wine which, thanks to its distinctive features, will continue to keep the memory of that year alive for a long time to come.

In 1921, Cosimo Varvaglione (grandfather of the current namesake Director of the company) began producing wine, giving life to the family’s winemaking tradition. That same year marked another birth in the family: Angelo, the son of the founder and representative of the family’s winemaking tradition in the second generation. Today, the third generation of this long tradition, always preserved with deep passion, continues with the family of Cosimo Varvaglione.

The choice of the spinning wheel as the representative symbol of the label is not accidental. In fact, the spinning wheel is an age-old object, a guardian of ancient traditions and, at the same time, a bearer of the ability to carry us forward through time. What made it the symbol of the RISERVA is precisely the profound meaning enclosed in this simple object, serving as the perfect compromise between the tradition tied to the history of the label and the innovation reflected in the style of this exceptional wine..
